The impression the Play It Strange team had in the early days of the 2004 songwriting competition was that large numbers of New Zealand school students have great music in them. The competition was therefore a means to empower them. A call to action.
When I first heard these 20 songs in their finished mastered form I realised that I had it wrong. It is we, the listeners, who are empowered by the sheer musical prowess and creative excellence. This album is a piece of magic from which there is much to learn.
