Now in our third year of this competition, we are finding a pattern. There are schools that produce a number of songs each year and they have one or two that go through to the finals. At each of those schools there are music teachers who have an understanding of what lies within their students creative power and the innovative excellence of the young people standing in front of them. These schools come from all parts of the country - form decile 10 to decile 1.

Thank you to those teachers who foster a love of original music and proclaim that a contemporary NZ music tradition will only evolve and become something tangible when it is built on songs written by the students who are currently in our care and walk our streets.
